Ingredients

Servings: 12 donuts

Donuts

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup sour cream
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • 2 eggs

Glaze

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 4 tsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • rainbow sprinkles
  • vanilla frosting, homemade or store-bought, for writing

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a donut pan with cooking spray.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a separate bowl, add milk, sour cream, butter, vanilla extract, and canola oil and whisk to combine. Add eggs one at a time, mixing in between each addition. Add wet ingredients to dry and mix with a spatula until just combined.

4. Scoop or pipe batter into greased donut pan. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

5. While donuts are baking, combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl and whisk to combine. If the glaze seems too thin add powdered sugar until slightly thickened.

6. Once donuts are done baking, let cool partially and then remove from pan and on to wire rack to cool completely.

7. Dip each donut in the glaze, dunking the top side of the donut fully. Sprinkle with rainbow sprinkles. If desired, using a frosting tip, pipe "Happy Birthday" on to each donut.

NOTES

Depending on how much batter you scoop for each donut you may end up with closer to 10 donuts. Anywhere from 10-12 is okay!
